I'd like to first make an apology for the slow maintenance of this site. By February's end, a weekly update of the blog and more photos and stories will be added, as well as a monthly calendar page. Please bear with us.
Last Sunday, we read from 1st Corinthians. Paul was speaking to the church at Corinth, preaching to them about the Holy Spirit's help among them. He said to them, "We have received not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit that is from God, so that we may understand the gifts bestowed on us by God."
We are continually engaged in recognizing the Holy Spirit's efforts among us. It's an interesting idea Paul writes about--the Holy Spirit will reveal to us the gifts God has given. We often think about inventories of abilities, or we start wishing we had this, that, or the other thing. But God gives us what we need to thrive--God gives us the Holy Spirit, and as Paul writes later on in his letter, "God gives the growth."
This week, I challenge you to think about what God has given you--what gifts, what knowledge, what insight, what hope, what strength, what questions, what interests. And then I'd like you think about what our community of faith has been given by God's Spirit. Let me know.
See you Sunday,
Pastor John
